Frank’s replacement habit for obsessively reading dictionaries was doing the New York Times Crossword. His wife felt it was a better and more creative use of his talents.
“Let’s see…a ten-letter word for eye-catching, or easily seen.”
Ian, a visitor from Scotland, prompted “ kenspeckle.” Frank looked up and discounted Ian’s suggestion; surely, even the Times would not be so obscure.
Of course, when the answer turned out to be kenspeckle, he promptly wrote down the word in his notebook – trust the Times to be deceitfully obscure.
