I grew up in a Merchant Marine and Navy family listening to my father and uncle talk about voyages to China and the Caribean. I was fascinated by the sailors’ ship models my grandfather created in the early twentieth century. My own carving adventures began while attempting to emulate my grandfather’s work. I carved my first boat but had to hide cut fingers for weeks.
Today I run a small shop which accepts limited commissions of marine-themed art.
About this page: I am as interested in the philosophy of my art as I am the craft/practice of the things I make. You won’t find too many tutorials on carving here. You will find some discussions about how and why.

That really is a beautiful carving.
Excited and curious to look and learn from and along with your practice of wood carvings and stories dear Lou.
