Hi! Hello! Whactha Doin???

The hummingbirds visit at least once a day. Finally, I recorded this short video of one investigating me. He seemed to be saying, “Hi! Hello! Whatcha doin’?”

  1. I can’t seem to attract the hummingbirds here, but when I lived in BC I had two feeders and usually about 13 hummers flitting about. I had this fluorescent pink dress I’d wear in the garden and they’d always approach me. It’s a wonderful feeling being so close to them.

    1. That is a fantastic story about fluorescent pink dress. they must have thught you were a big pink flower.
We plant lots of brightly colored tubed flowers to attract them, but we think there is a nesting area they return to every year nearby in the woods. So we are a convenient fast food restaurant for them.

      1. I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m probably slightly off their migratory path. On the upside, I have lots of song birds, bees, butterflies and dragonflies.

    1. Our cat Smidgen would stay still at our old house while they investigated her. She never tried to catch them; she was just fascinated by them. I don’t think she thought they were birds.

  2. I have some flowering shrubs in my front garden, so I up the blinds and sit there with camera in hand hoping to get a few snaps of these little beauties. They are so darn fast! Among all the blurs, I have a few good shots of them. The video is wonderful, Lou.

    1. Thanks, Lois; from experience, you know how hard it is to get them in the frame while you are shooting – and keep it in focus!

    1. Burlington, Vermont’s thriving art scene, is one of the best I’ve seen in years. There is lots of public art, performances, good food, and interesting galleries.
