Maritime Artwork by Lou Carreras

Carving and an interest in Maritime art came early in my family. A large portrait of a clipper ship hung alongside my crib. On my father’s side of the family were Catalan merchants and sailors. While my mother’s were fishermen, merchant seamen, and at least one British privateer. I grew up sitting at the dinner table listening to tales of merchant and Naval voyages to China and the Caribbean.

I was fascinated by the ship models my grandfather had created, and my uncle was a skilled painter of ships at sea. My own carving adventures began attempting to emulate my grandfather’s work. I completed a miniature model of a ship, but had to hide the cut fingers for weeks.

Today, I operate a small shop that accepts limited commissions of marine-themed art and ship and boat portraits.
