Quiet as a mouse doesn’t work around here. Sabrina and Marcus outsmarted them within a few weeks of their arrival. No scouting expedition by a new tribe, and no holdout survivor hanging on in the attic making two AM forays into the kitchen.
Or previous cat were no slouches. Clancy ( AKA the Grey Menace) believed in drowning in the sink, beheading, and torture. His successor, Smidgen, loved to play with them, and her successor, H.I.M. Xenia ( Empress of all she surveyed) made regular forays to the garden to reduce residual populations in the wild.
But they all seemed to think the house was a sort of game preserve, and the mice were the game animals you hunted. the principles of good conservation dictated that you harvest the surplus but don’t extirpate the creatures you depend upon for sport.
Then, the cats enlisted the dogs as hunting partners for expeditions against chipmunks and the frogs in the pond. Xenia especially seemed determined to stock the basement with frogs. We foiled this. Frog legs sticking out of her mouth always gave it away.
Then, there was the spring that Xenia and our dog Sam cooperated in sneaking in a chipmunk. It was an all day affair, and I don’t want to think about it, much less retell the horror.
No, the family appreciates the direct approach that Sabrina and Marcus have taken. Kill them all, and then demand treats.
I can live with that.

Nice post ๐ ๐
Thank You!
My Siberian husky, Lily, was the best mouser of all the animals I’ve voluntarily lived with, though I did have a family of talented cats.
I absolutely love hearing your kitties’ philosophies. Even better that they’ve enlisted the dogs’ help.
With the title and then seeing the photo immediately, my first thought was that they had spotted a mouse and climbed you to stand on your shoulders in safety. ha ha. I’m glad you have good mousers, chipmunkers, and froggers.
