Yesterday, I had an opportunity to buy some nice red oak at a great price. Rather than having wood delivered later in the season, I decided to space it out over spring and summer this year. This has the advantage of stacking no more than a cord or two at a time. most years it’s four, five, or six at once. I still get all the necessary steps and aerobic exercise, but not in one punishing deposit in the driveway. Besides, red oak burns wonderfully and heats superbly.
When my doctor or nurse practitioner asks if I get enough exercise, I don’t need to equivocateโyes, I do.

Is it rude to ask how much you paid for that? I used to burn that in CA for $900/cord
It was three hundred a cord, delivered. and as I am stacking it I relaize that the load was on the generous side too. But remember, my area is largely second growth woodlands from when much of the farmland was abandoned in the 19th century. Hard wood is all over the place. But Martha, I remember paying $80 per cord in the 1980s.
In more urban areas they pay about $450 a cord. and some noobs pay $399 for a quarter cord of kiln dried wood, extra if the bark is removed. Still $900!!!!! It would be sheaper to heat with oil or electric in my area.
