I was driving home from a late shoot one night. And as it does late at night, my mind wandered to things inexplicable, wondrous, and just plain silly. You know, on the outskirts of absolute lunacy. Yes, I do this a lot.
In this waking dream, I arrive home to find camera teams, news crews, a police cordon, and all the associated crowds surrounding my home. I get out of my car. Now, I’m surrounded by people – microphones, recording devices, and phones are pointed towards me. I have won a MacArthur Genius award, a Nobel prize from the Nobel folks, and an Academy nomination for Best Career Service to Video. Oh, and groveling by the side of the road is my Ph.D. committee begging me to accept my doctorate with their profound apologies for their idiocy. I take a moment to compose my humble acceptance speech.
Let me put it this way: it was an absolute killer daydream that night.
Of course, when I pulled into the driveway, it was to the regular peace and quiet.
I dropped my camera and tripod on the porch and opened the door. There were the two kittens, a wiggle-tailed dog, and my wife – all eager to see me and full of affection. What an enthusiastic and sincere welcome.
Tomorrow night, maybe?
