Cats or Dogs? Surely You Jest?

Evening meals are like a political convention in our house. The two kittens and the dog gather silently, caucus, and move to wherever you are in the house. They then begin the old floor routine, lying in front of your feet, brushing against you, giving you longing looks. Of course, it’s just before five. Where did the kittens learn the routine? From their brother the dog. Where did the dog get it? He was taught it by Xenia ( Her Imperial Majesty), and our old cattle dog Sam. They learned it from the prior generation Smidgen and our shepherd-collie Toby.
Thus, over the generations, cats and dogs have joined in mutual efforts to get fed on time.

Feuds? You have to be kidding. Solidarity is the rule, and if there were a soundtrack, it would be “We Shall Overcome.”

It’s a union, we say around the house. They are little Teamsters and have a Local.

There is power in the Union!

  1. My kitties raise their paws in solidarity!

WP is giving me fits today. I cannot post, my photos are gone and I cannot like a post. I say WE start a union! Sabrina–you’re in charge!

  2. When we had both a cat and a dog in our house (or when they permitted us to share their house with them), I would describe how they got along as โ€œpeaceful coexistence.โ€

  3. Here too. When I had cats and dogs, they worked it out. The dogs got the back yard and the cats got the front yard. Things only got ugly once; a cat went into the side yard. It didn’t go well. ๐Ÿ˜ข

  4. This tickled my funny bone, Lou. I’ve been cat caring this week while my kids are gone. Only the evening shift. but one dish is always empty that the other has a little in it so I must stand by it so he has company while he eats. Each with their own personality. Glad it’s a part-time job though. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m not as good as bowing as my son is. He knows too, who runs the show in their house.

    1. They see it as including you in theeir life…poor impoverished humans, needing the enriching company of superior felines…I am well indoctrinated!
