Could it be the old expect the worst and be surprised at good outcomes conundrum? Or the one where you are totally PollyAnna-like and assume that the universe tends toward the good. Now I could wink. And point out that I am from New York City. I’d never be so innocent-minded as to expect pure gold.
But so much experience points out that real good exists in the world. I found this out while on the road. People were not just good, but genuinely kind.
It wasn’t until I entered professional life that I discovered the flip side: people slash, gouge, and slash over minor points of precedence or privilege. Sometimes it seemed that to be worth a really good scrap, the prize needed to be truly nominal. Or something of no real value.
Sometimes, the more people have, the pettier the disputes, arguments, and debacles can be. Now, I am sure that there are many exceptions. But I think envy has a lot to do with this.
“Envy is the art of counting the other fellow’s blessings instead of your own.” – Harold Coffin

My next door neighbor cleared my front walk. 🙂
😇😇Nice people!
Yep. 😀
That Harold Coffin quote is a good one. I have found genuinely wonderful people while traveling but you’re right, envy rears its ugly head in everyday life.
