With spring approaching there is a bit less crackle, snaps and pops comeing form the wood stove. We are nearing the end of the heating season. Soon the semi-circle of chairs around the stove will break up, chairs will return to their regular locations, and evenings will focus on the dining room, or outside near the garden.
The cats are already anticipating the opening of windows, and long spring days and evenings of lounging. There will be a bit of yowling as they greet or curse other neighborhood cats passing – “Stay the hell out of my yard, idiot! those mice and chipmunks bekong to me!”
Max, of course, has his favorite window all picked out with his chest in front of it, a coverlet, and a pillow – a guy needs his comfort, you know.
Mom will get her Afghan-covered rocking chair back; the cats will no longer prefer its comforts for viewing the flames in the stove. So Mom can now watche her shows without a cat giving her accusing stares.
I am still doing yard cleaning, garden set up and a dozen other things. The living room is not a place I’l spend a lot of time in now. As the weather warms I’ll spend as much of it as I can outside. But when summer comes there once again will be the crackle of burning wood as we gather around the fire pit on the patio, and watch the stars.

This is lovely. I have yard chores to do, but the weather keeps being weird. I also have some beans I need to organize and mail. ๐
Lovel here, but the frost is still in the ground!
Here too. We’re in the 60 degrees one day snow the next phase of the year.
Two weeks ago it was so warm here, my thoughts were on gardens and nothing else. But now we are deep into cold cold rain, day after day, and I am reminded that I live in Portland, Oregon and the warmth can take till June some years. So it’s back indoors with the heater and the flannel and thick socks and a mug of coffee. At least… I can use this time to plan my gardens.
My wife and I were out in a lovely 60-degree afternoon today, but it is March, and like you mentioned, it can turn on a dime and make life stink again. Ahhhh Spring!
