Today, we received the first three cords. Contact me now to reserve your half cord or cord for stacking. Nothing gives you a pure aerobic, total-body workout like stacking firewood. You literally “get the burn” on.
Like we did last year, the team stacking challenge is available. Bring your crew and opponents. We’ll start the count, and off you’ll go. See if your team can beat the record for a cord stacked in 40 minutes—remember, stack stability counts. We had one crew last fall who threw up a cord in 20 minutes, but it collapsed just as they finished. The losers had to buy pizza and beer for the winning team!

I am so glad my cord stacking days are over and I now have radiant heat! Whew!
What? You don’t miss the throb of aching muscles afterwards, the”burn” of pulled tendons or the “I’m ready to collapse” feeling when you realize that two more cords are left to stack?” I guess you do know what you are missing.
In SoCal no one stacked their wood. I did the first year I lived there then I learned there was no point, it was burned so fast. Our protocol was a big pile as far away from the house as possible (wildfire danger) covered with a tarp. When I moved back here and saw the classic neatly stacked piles by the houses I was horrified. I wanted to go warn everyone then I remembered when I first moved to CA and was horrified by steep, north-facing driveways. A cord in CA cost between $450 and $900 a cord depending on how much beetle kill oak was in reach. My main source of heat was a woodstove. When people talk about CA being expensive, they aren’t usually talking about cords of wood. 😆
Damn! 450 – 900 that’s heartbreaking. It went from 300 t0 335 around here this year. but my friend on the coast is paying 450 – but he gets the fancy kiln dried stuff with the bark removed.
Frankly, MAK, I just never thin in terms of SoCal needing to heat. Silly and uneducated me!
No one thinks of SoCal needing heat, but even my house in San Diego had a wall furnace and a fireplace. 40F in an unheated uninsulated house is pretty chilly. In my house in the mountains most nights in winter were well below freezing. That didn’t affect my house plumbing, but the water lines to the shed where the washer was froze a few times a year. We also had snow. But don’t tell anybody. It’ll wreck the mystique.
