Subtle

Daily writing prompt
What does your ideal home look like?

I was having my first cup of coffee with my wife. And I happened to look around. From my seat in the dining room, I can see into the living room, and out to the small porch and the workshop/greenhouse.

There’s the small table loaded down with guitar music and songbooks. Then there is the new three-tier plant stand waiting for frost to be filled with plants summering outside. Above that is “Charlie,” my almost ancient traveling guitar. On the stand nearby is “Merlin,” my bell metal resonator guitar. Off to the side of the door is the cat tree. It was adorned with cats admiring the view of birds at the feeders.

The living room has an assortment of cat and dog toys and beds. On the walls are displays of my carving, photos, books, and the TV. This is not the sparely furnished abode of fashion magazines. When we have guests coming the clutter gets put away. But sparely furnished? Elegantly appointed? Nope.

Everyone in the family, and I include the cats and dog, has varied interests, and the house reflects this.

Aliens?

Let me share something with you. I secretly regard people who live in the fashion houses as mentally and emotionally deprived. Sicko’s at the least, maybe even deviants! If their minds are as empty as their houses, they may have been the subjects of subtle mental manipulation by aliens. Perhaps victims of “probing” by the Graylings. No personal possessions because they expect the Mothership anytime. If they are your neighbors, I’d be careful. Don’t accept invitations to their vacation “getaway” in a remote location.

Home sweet home

Anyway, there go the cats, careening from the cat tree to play with some catnip mice, and the dog is up on the window chest barking at the neighbor’s dog. Nothing spare or subtle is going on here!
