What’s a book or movie that genuinely scared you

The 1951 original of The Thing scared the heck out of me. I think I saw it when it hit television a few years after its theatrical release. And I believe that my sister got into a lot of trouble for letting me watch it because, of course, I couldn’t go to sleep after.
I was convinced that the severed arm was going to show up in the night and get me. It was the last time for a while that my sister let me stay up late to watch TV with her.
The film has been preserved as being culturally significant, and I think I’m going to search for it online and see if it still scares me.

For me it was The Exorcist. I saw the movie then read the book. I was going to say it scared the devil out of me, but…🙄 Anyhow, it was so creepy–the book more so than the movie.
