Maturity is such a slippery subject. Take it from someone who was sixteen until his thirties. Now, please understand that it is hard to usher in an entirely new phase of life. It can’t be done with headlines in the paper. You have to slip peacefully into it – year by year. Too rapid a transition can upset the emotional equilibrium and lead to traumatic adjustments to adult life. The Diagnostic manual suggests that TAAL syndrome requires therapeutic action of the most delicate sort. Any sort of traumatic interaction – like requiring us to act our age can set off a TAAL Tantrum.
Most sufferers of TAAL syndrome do recover – some were around age eighty. In the meantime, we suggest patience and understanding – they cannot help themselves.

I had TAAL really bad when I was 42.
Martha, come clean…you’re like me. You still have it. The dogs just help you keep it under control.
