“Anyone who isn’t confused doesn’t really understand the situation.” – Edward R. Murrow
Confused?ย That’s good. It means that you are thinking. Something alerted you – not everything was the way it should be.ย I know manyย peopleย thinkย that going around confused is a bad idea.ย But I’d wager that it’s those who always act with surety who are in trouble. They are the ones who blunder through life, acting as though the path is alwaysย certain. They mutter complex phrases about their actionsย ” Persuantย to the certitude of the actuality of the machinations hitherto put forth in this document…etce, etce, et cetera.”
Mayhem normally follows. But they glide through the worst ofย it,ย while someone else swamps out the mess, cleans up, and makes it all tidy.
It’s part of the reason that despite my progressive political leanings, I maintain that a requirement for making it through any politician’s pronouncementsย is a big helping of skepticism.
You see, a long time ago, in the Navy, a wise petty officer (John O’Toole) wised me up. After a particular Division Officer had buttered us up only to dump a load of ordure on us, O’Toole introduced me to the most crucial bit of political wisdom an enlisted man can have. BOHICA. Bend Over Here It Comes Again.
Some things in politics do not change.
