Solstice

With the Winter Solstice approaching, I like to make sure there is ice melt on the porch, shovels ready, and mittens ready. The climatologists, weathermen, and the weird guy down the street with the necklace of acorns can say whatever they like. This is still New England. With regard to the weather, count on change.

The weirdo down the street has a big sign on his lawn. It says, “Repent! The End is Nigh!” Being a PIA, I told him the End of the yearย wasย nigh.ย Soย he was partially correct. He was not amused and started muttering about Tribulations in the End of Times. I cut him short right away. I don’t discuss politics and the last election with strangers.

This brings me to things I like to do this time of year: sit around, eat my famous ” don’t eat and drive fruitcake,” and spend time with the family. I love watching the cats chase the little train around the Christmas tree. Our grandson is just old enough now to appreciate the lights and decorations.

Simple things are the best, and it’s important to take the time to appreciate how lucky you are if you have them.

  1. Donโ€™t eat and drive! Hahaha! I remember when I almost killed my diabetic mother-in-law with my fruit cake, which contained fruit that had been soaked in vodka.

  2. Simple things are best. I feel that intensely this year. In spite of myself, I feel a low-level of anxiety over that which shall not be mentioned further.
