Spam has probably existed since the cave days when Gagalog decided that he wanted to give the finger to Toatol. He crept into the cave before dark and used his middle finger, smudged in red ochre, to leave the first obscene cave art. It’s been downhill since then.
My spam folder fills every day with a mixture of legitimate offers I am not interested in and tons of spurious offerings. In the past year, the spurious has included dozens of job offers every day from a major social networking site for professionals. Various supposed Head Hunters seem to scrape the resume and send listings to me of jobs that are perfect for me. Really?
I chortle at some of the offerings. I not really looking for further employment, but the supposed offerings pour in. Let’s see- Clinical RN in a Oncological setting, Sales associate for luxury real estate sales, or Fluid Dynamics analysis technician. Stuff that if you read my resume doesn’t fit at all. What’s on my resume? My work as an anthropologist, videographer and my small business as a marine woodcarver.
Now, given my past experience as an anthropologist, one might expect offerings relating to that. Nope. Headquarters probably got the message early this year that anthropologists might be contaminated with the horrid DEI bug for which there is no known vaccine (RFK has suggested that hot water purges with oatmeal might help). So there won’t be any offerings in that area.
Given my past as a Pius Itinerant, you could also suppose that DOGE might need my expertise. After all, those displaced Federal Employees need tracking. As a former vagabond, I have first-hand knowledge of how the disaffected live. My advice? It’s less dangerous to keep them employed. That many skilled. educated and angry people milling around are trouble.
My free advice to Elon? Keep them in the office where they are kept busy emptying their spam folders full of idiotic job offers.
