The Hummingbird is just one of the many works of public art in Burlington, Vermont. The city has a great food scene, wonderful public art, and lots more.
A box of these same tools was the first set of carving tools I ever owned in 1969. They were stolen along with most of my tools while I was in grad school. Last year I found an identical set for sale. I am happy to have them back in my workshop.
My oldest son cut down the Christmas tree several years ago.

I had that exact carving tool set. I still have some of them. I used them for linocuts. I love the hummingbird.
They are great tools – made here in Massachusetts. The hummingbird is just one of a huge number of impressive public art installations in the city. Other places could do well to emulate them.
Murals are a big thing (in both senses) down here. I think they’re great.

Tools do have a beauty of their own, especially when they’ve had many hands using them and loving them.
