Yes, I do have a Facebook, LinkedIn, and even an Instagram account. Digging around, I can also locate my YouTube channel, with a bit of difficulty. I guess that makes me normal in terms of social media.
But in terms of my use, few of those accounts see much use. I go to Facebook once or twice a week to check on friends, and I post my WordPress blog on a separate Facebook site for friends who use it. But for the most part, social media of that ilk is not my thing. Looking at endlessly repeated memes, silly reels, political diatribes, or whatever the newest thing is doesn’t turn me on.
The reason I like my WordPress blog is that it stimulates my mind. None of the WP users I follow are idle posters. Their posts are thoughtful, frequently funny, and well thought out. In response, I strive to create posts that have something to say.
Among the bloggers at WordPress, I have found a loose community of thinkers, comics, creators, and sometimes the irascible. It suits me better as a “social media” than the others I’ve found.
