The prompt today for the Stream of Consciousness Saturday is the word hook. Perhaps because I did a Flashback Friday post the other day that featured my not-quite-friend John, the term hook spent time banging around my head, and then I remembered. John had always talked about the bait that made the conservative, fiscally sound, and logical Mark jump and swallow the hook.
The baited hook for the con was something the otherwise honest, sedate, and comfortable found irresistible. Maybe it was the attention of your female confederate. Perhaps it was money. John insisted that a big part of the con was tailoring the bait to the mark, putting it on the hook, and dangling it.
The bait taken, the hook set, the mark becomes a fish. Reel them in.
