Just a bit of explanation. If you’ve read any of my stories about my life in Coastal Maine, you might remember that my father-in-law was a former Master Mariner who thought me a hopeless ninny. One of the ways he sought to rectify the defects of my life growing up in sinful New York City ( a veritable cauldron of iniquity), and the son of a Marine Engineer ( a Bridge versus Engine room thing) was to inculcate me in local culture and sailing lore. Well, lots of the inculcation and lore stuck, but the marriage to his daughter did not.
But last night I was watching a high-level ninny of a politician spout nonsense, and the quote from Proverbs popped out of my mouth. It was one of the Cap’n’s favorites. And it was appropriate!
