The new computer is arriving in about a week. Last night I finally hit the buy key and did it. Six years ago, when my “Trash Can” Mac died all of a sudden, I hurriedly bought the first thing I could get. I had deadlines to meet, and couldn’t shop at leisure.
There it sat, a lovely yellow iMac that was horrendously underpowered. Somehow, though, it’s lasted six years, and I’ve made it last. It had some challenges with Final Cut Pro and some of the other applications, but it made it through.
During the last six months, though it’s been laboring with new upgrades, not all new features were enabled on software updates, and I was growing irritated with the slow processing speeds. Portability has also become an issue. I’d love to be able to get out of the office sometimes to work in the shop or the much airier dining room.
So I started hunting. I’ve always used a desktop unit, but this time I began looking intently at the laptops. The recently updated units had all the processing power I’d need for my final years of working in video, rendering work for the carving shop, and games. I hadn’t been against laptops so much as the right combination of processing power and application flexibility hadn’t been within my price range.
So sometime in about a week, I’ll take possession of the new unit. I’ll use a backup of my current machine to make the new one a faster, newer, and more capable version of the old. I won’t raise an obelisk in honor of the old machine. It’ll be shipped off to Mac and provide a small discount on the new machine.
So, in with the new, and out with the old!
Addendum:
The big question is, will the cats like to watch cat TV on it as much, and will they watch and listen to the blog posts of popular cat bloggers as they have? I mean it has fancy speakers. will the audio of Meooww be up to their high standards?

I had a Mac for many years, and I still have it. It is a super machine but for the past few years I have been back to windows. Basically I can use both, but getting older does not help and I tend to forget easier. I am now happy with my Windows, but my supermack still sits in the cupboard, Son No. 2 is not yet interested, I do not have a Mac family.
It’s a matter of personal preference. I no longer think one is superior to the other. It’s what works best for the individual.
