NO, NO and No

Glory days
Yeah, they’ll pass you by, glory days
In the wink of a young girl’s eye, glory days
Glory days

Hey? Want to revisit that night traveling from Boston to Philly when….Three times no! I have no desire to relive my past. Remember, yes. Mine for experiences, yes. Write about, Yes. But relive? Shudder!

The youthful days of my experiences by the seaside in Maine, Drinking Champagne in Philly or the exquisite nights with….I don’t talk about that!

No, No, and No. If some slick dude in a checkered suit and florid tie should approach me from the alley offering cut price trips back to the halcyon days of 1965 I’d kick him in the keister so hard he’d waddle around town for two weeks.

But Lou, you say, those events are featured in so many of your stories and posts. Why wouldn’t you want to relive some of them. The key word here is relive. The younger me is very welcome to his adventures, peccadilloes, trials and tribulations. If I were in charge we’d hare off in some other direction because I’d know that that particular sideways trip to hell would result in nothing good. You know as well as I do that we often gloss over things. We make the plain awful into an adventure. But in all honesty, it was awful.

But what about the good times? Well that’s where that litle quote from Glory days comes in. Despite the the rock & roll glory of Springsteen’s treatment he talks about some pretty heavy stuff in the song. For me it’s bitter sweet:

I think I’m going down to the well tonight
And I’m gonna drink till I get my fill
And I hope when I get old I don’t sit around thinking about it
But I probably will
Yeah, just sitting back, trying to recapture
A little of the glory, yeah
Well, time slips away and leaves you with nothing, mister
But boring stories of Glory days

So, NO, NO and No. Let’s get a move on. We have new things to do and places to go.

  1. It’s a good perspective. I am happy to have never been one to get too caught up in wishing for the old days. Honestly, my life just keeps getting better. I do wish for the old body though…. It would be awesome not to have to think it through before any physical activity, like squatting, or jumping.

  2. Truer words never “spoken” — “We make the plain awful into an adventure. But in all honesty, it was awful.” Some of the best parts about those “glory days” is that they’re over.
