In The Season

It’s the garden clean-up season, and my morning routine starts after the dog and cats are fed, with coffee and an overview of the seasonal mess that my garden has become. By this time, all the winter wood has been stacked and covered. In my email, I have discarded all those fall nursery promotions for spring tulips and such. I have enough issues in the garden without compounding it. So I caffeinate over cogitations of reducing the number of grow bags used, next year’s weeding strategy, and how much composting I’ll get involved in next year.

After that, I get to the serious stuff: emails and blog. At this point, the cats complain that breakfast was totally inadequate, and my new nickname is going to be something unpronounceable by the human tongue, but in cat means lowest of the low. They then proceed to dance on the keyboard to make sure I understand the dire nature of their hunger.

After submitting to hungry pets, I return to my computer and try to remove the extra special characters and letters they have added to my post. Hmmmm…this one is a saver. It’ll make a good password.

After posting the blog and reading other bloggers’ posts, I dig out my old-fashioned analog daily planner and lay out the actual work of the day – those productive hours that actually earn coin to purchase the expensive cat and dog food that meets the gourmet standards of Sabrina, Max, and Marcus.

Much of this routine stays steady, but soon the season shifts and the early tasks will shift to bringing wood in for the stove, tending the fire… and making sure that all is toasty warm for the two cats and the dog to sprawl in front of the fire and sleep away the morning after breakfast and a snack.

Tell us about your morning routine.

    1. Not as long as we feed them on time, provide warm, snuggy spots to sleep, and admit that they are the superior species. Our dogs just roll their eyes and sigh.
