Non-negotiable Demands

It’s been the same every year that I can remember. The protest signs are crudely scrawled with slogans like, ” Obligate CarniVvores need REal mEAT” or “DOWn wit HooMan StupiDty.”

They’ve adopted flash mob tactics this year and threatened to publicize the entire thing on Facebook, Linked In, Truth Social, and other social media. If you are not familiar with our household, it may appear surreal. But they have claimed to have a Teamsters local in the house for several years now. Having been a Teamster myself, I try to reason with them. However, they claim that I have no credibility since I “took the tie” and became supervisory at UPS. They offer to quote the contract, but they have no pockets and can’t provide a physical copy. This makes them angrier, and Sabrina, the union’s “mouthpiece,” starts yowling that we won’t bargain in good faith.

The dog claims it’s nothing less than a systematic attempt to make them subsist on canned food while humans feast on turkey, roast beast, ham, and other goodies.

As I am getting dinner ready, I reach into the refrigerator and bring out the tub of leftover turkey from Thanksgiving. Marcus, usually the silent one, meows something about their salvation being in sight. All I’m doing is holding the tub of meat up high, away from the jumping dog.

Having had enough for one day, I gave into the non-negotiable demands and put some scraps down for them.

Peace reigns in the house. For now.

  1. That’s a fantastic graphic! Having had a home with four dogs living in it at one time, I am well aware of the demands for HooMan food.

Glad you have peace back in the house. Fun post! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thank you. You have to tease the WP AI graphic program a bit, but it is getting better. I’m glad that you are enjoying some of the posts!

  2. “For now.” heh heh heh. It’s not a done deal until they say its a done deal. Well done, everyone–your Florida cousins
