Thanks to my allergies and an allergy season from hell, the garden has drawn the short straw this year for attention. Yesterday and today I spent some time cleaning up. I have lots and lots of zucchini “bats”, you know zukes the size of major league baseball bats. My wife says they can be stuffed and baked, and make good zucchini bread. But not all was disaster today in the garden. The good side is the beans!
Beans! Chinese Emperor Beans, to be a bit more precise. Martha Kennedy over at the Anachronism of the Far West blog sent me a bunch of seeds about two years ago. I think their floral display tops their culinary value, but that floral display is wonderful in comparison to the otherwise bland display of tomatoes and squash. Ouch! I just reminded myself of the zucchini bats…

I want to try baking some using gluten-free flour, but I’m not sure about the added moisture of zucchini. It’s time for science!

Absolutely! I also just ordered a sourdough starter kit, so I’m setting out to try working with gluten free flours. Wish me luck, lol… hugs

Good question. It had to be a gardner who had a spouse who insisted that nothing in the garden go to waste.
I agree with that concept but that’s what a good compost bin is for 😂
You’re welcome, Lou! Your beans are amazing!!!! Mine are doing pretty poorly this year — hit by cutworms early, now the grasshoppers are eating the flowers. I like the green beans — I think they’re tasty, but there’s no disputing taste.

Your beans are beautiful! IO just planted a few in pots for my tiny balcony a couple of days ago, and hope our heat dome in Southern California will allow (or encourage) them to grow as nicely! A friend has already nicknamed me “Janet and the Beanstalk!”
