Success is a tainted word. When I read the paper, watch the news, or hear people talking, success seems limited in application to those who have either garnered great public attention or incredible amounts of money, greenbacks, public tender -cash. Left out are the people who successfully navigated poverty, educational difficulties, and perhaps being single parents to assist in saving thousands of lives in their careers in healthcare, as teachers or as craftspeople. Not slight achievements.
Unfortunately, I am probably just as infected as the next person for yielding to the illness that prefers huge stacks of toys, cash, and public acclaim as proof of success. The gates of heaven apparently lie open to a select few if we accept this philosophy. This means that we yield less credit to dedicated craftspeople, artists, plumbers, and electricians, who improve our lives over corrupt politicians, Crypto-currency thieves, and vulture capitalists. Wow! I guess you know how I feel about this; just a bit on the molten side of hot.
It’s time to focus more on the opposite end of things and celebrate success broadly, value wealth and celebrity less.
Start by celebrating your own success, whether it be as a parent, small business person, counselor, family physician, Gardner, guitarist, or blogger.
Success begins at home.

I think accumulating stuff has been a species thing since forever.
It’s called Archeology…the study of our old stuff.
