Move!

In another universe or a galaxy far, far away, if my dad had lived to my age, he’d be doing the same thing – working. It was my Uncle Lenny’s style. And from what I heard from them, it was my grandfather’s also. Keeping busy with projects and learning new things is a family trait.ย

As long as a Carreras is mobile, he keeps active. Uncle Lenny was running a small landscaping business,ย Leonardo’s Masterpieces, right up until he died. And my grandfather operated his candy shop despite his severe heart problems.

Was all this activity good for them? In the words of many active seniors I know and knew back when I was a mere sprout, it beats the alternative of sitting around waiting for something to knock you off. No sitting in the casino, at the slots, pulling a lever all night!

Or, in the words of a former Marine I knew,”…it’s harder to hit a moving target, so just keep your ass in gear..”

  1. Great post, and you are so right. Most, if not all, men in the past were focused on work, and I think that helped them stay fit and strong until old age. I totally agree with the words of that former Marine.
