A definitive NO is such a wonderful thing. It yields much more satisfaction than a polite and courteous little no. It is important, however, to note that yielding to temptation and delivering an explosive NO – which launches a malefactor into outer space -has unhappy consequences.
I try to set out warning signs, the wind and storm clouds curling around my brows. The sulk set deep into the corners of my mouth, and the grim smile that just seems to reekโ” Just push a bit further, and see what you get!”
Most who know me in recent years have never, or only rarely seen the Mr. Hyde transformation. Frankly, giving up smoking and drink helped me a lot. I find creative ways of getting to objectives. I learned that when frustrated I could “tie knots in the devils tail” by clever detours, devious language or outright deception.
The sheer pleasure of seeing an A-hole trounced cleverly exceeds the results of a Mr. Hyde-level interventionโdefcon 4.
However, occasionally, it does good to allow some smoke to curl out from the ears. It is just a reminder that the volcano still lives, even if it is quiescent. I don’t allow Hyde any autonomy, but there he is if I ever need it. Heel, Damn you Heel!!
