Broken Glass

We have trails that run through the property. Over the years I put mulch down to create the network of walkways.

Why? Because of the broken glass in scattered in some areas of the lot. When we moved in with four kids, a cat and a dog we were upset about the broken glass. We put in the trails so there would be safe places for bare feet to walk on.

Eventually, we found a creative use for the glass. It gets picked up and placed in the fire pit. Over the years, we have made a number of interesting fireglass concretions. Most of the glass is gone now, but in one or two areas, fresh bits push up in the spring from the action of frost—more fuel for the fire.
