One or two of you expect a rant about the darlings in Washington. Nope. I feel that true change for people comes from more fundamental changes. Alter the underlying patterns, and the rest follows. As a martial arts sensei once showed me, grab the nose, and the body follows – OOHH, that hurt.
Yes, alter fundamentals, and watch the rest of the behavior follow. So what am I ranting about today? Social Media, of course, specifically my favorite target, “influencers.”
The underlying behgavioral error I feel that people make regarding SMI ( social Media Influencers) Is thinking that they: a.) might actually care about the accuracy of what they are saying, or b.) be motivated by a desire to do good.
In fact, most influencers couldn’t care less about a or b, because they are in business and mostly care about c.) their bottom line – how much cash they can make.
All though they seem up to date and on the latest technological platform, the delivery has a certain similarity to the old TV soap salesmen. Yes, Wave will whiten all your delicates and leave everything silky smooth!
To get even more prehistoric, the pitches remind me of old-time carny booths you could visit back in the day. It’s just a bit more sophisticated than the old “Step right up, step right up! She walks, she talks, Little Egypt does the “Dance of the Pyramids”!! Just one thin dime, just one tenth of a dollar. Step Right up!” Yes, nothing is indeed new under the sun. So let’s involve those critical thinking skills our teachers tried to drum into us in Middle School, do some research, and involve some skeptical analysis.

I agree whole heartedly, but I have found social media to be a welcome addition when trying to keep current on the every other moment fluctuations of what is going on in our little corner of the world.
