Occasionally, I receive a late-night phone call. Not one involving an actual phone, but a dream. In the dream, I am talking to an old friend. It’s a bit poignant when it’s someone from whom I’ve been split for a while. Now I can’t say that all these calls are welcome, after all, they are from the dead. You ask if I am into mystical practices like Corticeimancy, tea leaf reading, or spells. Not in the least. I can’t be accused of Olympian feats of spiritual daring-do.
Really quite the opposite. I prefer to live in a totally rational world, but I do seem to be sought out. My father used to be a regular visitor, and he died in 1974. I had the benefit of his advice on several occasions. But towards the end, he was tired of the long journey and was only waiting for his wife, my mother, to join him. He doesn’t come around anymore.
Then there are the sightings, which occur at night on the stairs and in the dim, dark places. I sometimes feel that I am being watched over by the cats and dogs I’ve lived with.
I think there are familial reasons for this. My step-great-grandfather was deeply steeped in a Spanish mystical tradition; he influenced my grandfather, who in turn influenced my uncle and father. I think it’s something culturally derived from the Carreras family, rather than a personal interest.
Anyway, if you call very late some night and get a busy signal, you’ll know what’s going on.

Never in my life have I dreamed about receiving a phone call. However, I often dream about needing to call someone and losing all dexterity in my hands, with my fingers punching random numbers and not the numbers I want.
that’s scary!
The psychic stuff permeates aspects of my life, completely unsought. No phone calls, though.
You haven’t lived until you get an operator connected one.
I’ll give you a call when it happens.
Your’e on!
