Progress

Daily writing prompt
What would your life be like without music?

It’s been a year since I began playing guitar regularly again. I wish I could say that I practiced daily, but it’s more like three or four times a week. In that time, there have been some interesting things happening. Against expectations, I rarely look at my old set lists for songs to practice. I rarely listen to other contemporary folk musicians that I knew in the way way back, and I don’t try to emulate my earlier playing style.

Instead, Charlie ( my old traveling guitar) and I spend time running progressions, and runs looking for stuff that just interests my fingers. Also, my picking and strumming styles have shifted. I have also purchased some new music. but not song books. Instead, it is material focused on progressions, runs, and musical concepts.

I find this new guitar playing me interesting. And I feel that it is leading somewhere, but I don’t have a clear understanding of where. I’m OK with not understanding because I feel excited by what it’s doing to my interest in playing the guitar.

Comebacks are weird!
