Creative uses for guilt

Stream of Consciousness Saturday, July 5 th:

Remembering can be a good thing. Unless its a memory of some dastardly deed you did that you’ve never quite been able to get over. No, this is not a confession, and I ain’t saying. But I’ve found that these things are useful. They are something that opens the future to change. They serve as an instruction, a guide, and a reminder that you never want to be that shitty a person ever again.

So yes, I have three things that haunt me, and it’s good, because they guide me to be a better person. Operationally, in life, I’ve passed beyond these things. I’m not likely to repeat the errors. But something new has come up. They act as reminders that I have had abysmal judgment, and I should carefully scrutinize my judgment and actions to avoid creating harm and damage to others.

Why? Because, unless you are some sort of sociopath, living with the damage you’ve done to others is not a fun way to go through life. So in the words of the old song:

Straighten up and fly right

Straighten up and fly right

Straighten up and fly right

Cool down papa, don’t you blow your top
