I was camping the weekend that we got the news that JFK had been assassinated. About the only thing I remember about that ri is sitting around the campfire listening to the news on someone’s car radio.
We cut the trip short. We all wanted to get home to our families as soon as possible. Some people even speculated that there would be other killings and that life as we had known it was ending. It was but none of guessed the way in which it would change.

For someone who does not remember it, can you tell me what kinds of things changed after that? And could you see an American future in which the pendulum ever swings back?
In the years following, there was a rash of political assassinations. It certainly seemed that the abnormal was normalized. Then came Nixon and Reagan, the Tea Party and the populist wave. The closest political analog seems to be the Know Nothing party of the prior century, but they luckily failed.
