Among the frustrating things that I rail against every time I shop for groceries is the impossibility of avoiding plastic. Try to buy organic products – they are packaged in plastic. Allow me to ask the business owner why he thought it such a brilliant business decision to try to sell an organic product to health-conscious people, and then put it in plastic. Perhaps the amount of microplastics in their heads reached critical mass, and this is the result.
The ubiquity of junk plastic and other types of mass-produced junk has a lot to do with my daily trek ( about twelve feet from my door) to the shop. When I get the need, I can plow through a whole bunch of Cherry blanks. Cherry blanks that become spoons, spatulas, spreaders, salad forks, bowls and other items. These are not plastic, are food safe, and are durable.
Clean food is another daily duty, as in the growing of. The garden can’t provide everything, but the idea is to replace some of the food from outside not grown under the sort of organic strictures I use.
Recycle? We recycle or reuse wherever we can. But the frustrating thing is that so much comes in that is not recyclable. As much as possible, we try to avoid non-recyclable packaging. But we are frustrated by the business owners who can’t or won’t go sustainable. Our response to them is to, where possible, refrain from buying their products.
If there really were truth in advertising, I wonder how well their products would fare if advertised as :
” Carefully organically grown, and esquisitely packed in non-reusable plastic guaranteed to separate into your minimum daily requirement of micro-plastics!”
Go figure.

This is similar to make-up–of which I wear very little. But what I do wear is clean and cruelty-free. So why do some brands tout the beautiful packaging? Who cares about the packaging–unless it is recyclable. Then it just becomes one more thing to throw away. Way too much waste everywhere.
You are right on target.
There is so much stuff out there that appeals to people and I have no idea why.
The pumpkin photo fills me with joy!
I’m glad!
My peeve is recyclable plastic bottles ensconced in non-recyclable plastic “bag” labels I have to rip off to recycle the bottle. That makes no sense at all to me. Add it to the list, I guess…
I didn’t think of that one!
