- First up is one of the small banners I carve for house signs. They are around a foot long, and while I now use a laser to do the letters, the banners themselves are carved by hand.
- A photo of the great carver John Haley Bellamy of Kittery, Maine
- More Bellamy! One of his eagles gracing the doorway of a Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Home.
- A set of carving tools ready for carving a large banner or doing lettering.
- The Bow of the USS Constitution.
- This is my carving of an eagle taken from the design used as the transom eagle on the first USS Pennsylvania.
- Found at the fantastic Oldies Marketplace, in Newburyport, Massachusetts. There is a story behind this!
- The infamous Sea Dog, Cap’n Ahab Carreras.
- And last is my cat Clancy (AKA The Grey Menace) being counseled after an “incident”.

“You haven’t heard a word I said!”
“Why should I listen to you, slave?”
That was pretty much his attitude.
Clearly and rightfully so.
That also was his take on things.
The USS Constitution will forever be linked in my head with over enthusiastic security. Being a military ship, my purse was searched before I could board. The diligent military man searching it found a tiny metal fingernail file (filing surface 1.75 inches long) with a mother of pearl handle that my mother had given as a gift. He offered to throw it away for me. “Oh come on!” I protested. “It’s a nail file. I can’t hurt anyone with that!” Deadly serious, the response was, “Ma’am. This is a weapon.”
I took the file, stomped out, and stashed it in the dirt behind a green bush on the outside of the building. Then I went back and was given permission to board. I am proud to say that Americans were definitely saved that day from the mighty nail file.
As we were always told: There is the right way, the wrong way, and the Navy Way.
